When considering what separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom, many scholars point to some aspect of our relationship with information and knowledge.\

Most of us value knowledge and have tried to acquire and utilize it. Everyone has areas of expertise and everyone also has some gaps in their knowledge. Sometimes you can identify the gaps, sometimes you don’t know as much as you think you do, and often you don’t know what you don’t know.\
\
Knowing that you don\'t know everything, how do you discover what you don’t know? How do you identify what you need to know? How do you go about filling those gaps in your knowledge? \

In this month of traditional blessings of the animals, Rev. Dr. Carrie Knowles celebrates the wisdom of other species than ourselves in keeping connection with community.\

Elephants and wolves have their distinctive patterns of survival, family and social life that can teach us how to live better with our world.\
\
Rev. Dr. Carrie Knowles describes herself as a recovering psychologist and recovering attorney. Born Jewish, she found her faith in Unitarian Universalist communities in her adulthood. Called to ministry in 2007, she received her M. Div. from the Starr King School for the Ministry in 2011, and was ordained in 2013. Currently, she provides pastoral care at the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists and leads a monthly Sunday Service. In her spare time, she writes poetry, short stories and her memoir.\
